Lake Tus is the most salted lake situated in the Republic of Khakassia (Russia). It is located on the territory of Shirinsky District, four kilometers far from the village Solenoozernoe and twenty-five kilometers far from the village Shira. Shirinsky District is some kind of the richest part of the Republic of Khakassia including more than 40 different lakes (the most famous among them are Lake Shira, Lake Belyo, Lake Itkul and others).

Water area and shore land both are a special protected part of the territory and have a status of a health-related place and a resort of local relevance. Lake Tus is situated in the forestless hilly steppe.
The lake attracts tourists from Khakassia, Russia and other parts of the world by its helpful features and health-related influence on a human body. The square of the lake is about 2 square kilometers, the maximum depth is 2,5 – 3 meters, the length of the shore land is 8 kilometers.
The Russian equivalent to the Dead Sea
The Russian lake Tus is similar to the famous Dead Sea. The percentage of salt in the lake is 275 gram per liter. The salt concentration is so high that the salt can’t be completely dissolved and that’s why the amount of salt is sinking on the bottom of the lake forming some kind of a thick level for about 30 centimeters. Bitter and salty water in the lake is so thick that it is possible just to lie on the surface of the water without any efforts.
According to the conclusion of the scientists Lake Tus can be recommended for people with such illnesses as musculoskeletal disease, cardiovascular disease, diseases of the nervous system, metabolic disease and gynecological disorders. Water of the lake is very healthy for children with rickets, adenopathy, weakness and ambrosia. You can get to the lake by the highway Shira-Kopyovo, approximately in the middle of the way you see a pointer “Lake Tus” (near the village Solenoozernoe). From the highway to the north coast of the lake there are about two kilometers long.

On the west coast of the lake (the territory of the recreational center “Voshod”) there is situated an item of cultural heritage of regional significance “Burial mound Tus” which belongs to the Karasuk and Tagar cultures. Lake Tus with good reason is one of the tourist attractions of the Republic of Khakassia.
