One of the biggest lakes of the Republic of Khakassia (Russia) is Lake Belyo. The lake is situated in Shirinskiy Districton on the north part of the republic. It’s the biggest mineral reservoir in Khakassia. In summer water in the lake is so warm that’s why tourists from different parts of Russia and all over the world like to spend holidays here. There is a good opportunity to swim or to bask in the sun on the lakeside.
Lake Belyo is located 8 kilometers north of Lake Shira which is also very popular among native people and guests. On this not wide territory of Shirinskiy District there is one more resort lake called Itkul. That is the fresh lake.
Lake Belyo is not completely explored, namely the measures of the depth of the lake have not been taken yet, the structure of the underground sources is not determined. The lake is surrounded by vivid mountains 100 – 240 metres height.
A narrow stream divides the lake (located in Russia) into two parts: Big and Small. Water in the both parts of the lake is rich in minerals. Travelers like to spend holidays here due to the low salt level in water. The bigger part of the lake is fresh because of the small river Tuim empting into the lake. The square of this part of the lake is 52 square kilometers. The maximum depth is 26 metres.
The smaller part of the lake is located at the foot of Chalpan Mountain. Its maximum depth is 46 metres.
Swimming birds make a stop at the lake during their migration in spring and autumn every year. There are such birds as whooper swans, bean geese, laughing geese. The skein of the birds can be up to 1 – 2 thousand individuals. Tufted ducks and smews also fly across the lake. Chalpan Mountain located next to the Small part is included in the “Lake Belyo Site” belonging to State Natural Reserve “Khakassky”. An ancient fortress situated here on this mountain belongs to the Tagaro-tashtykskiy time.
