Victory Day in Abakan

Today 9th May 2016 citizens and guests of the capital of Khakassia, Abakan, celebrate the 71st anniversary of the victory by the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Festivities are started early in the morning (at 9 a.m.) at the Monument to Military Glory situated in Victory Park. There is held a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to Military Glory.

Later at 10 a.m. citizens and guests of the republic may watch the ceremonial parade of weapons and military equipment and military units. At noon the demonstration of “The Immortal Regiment” is started. A lot of citizens of Khakassia take part in this demonstration. They are going from the sports complex “Abakan” to Victory Park along all Lenin Avenue. The participants are holding tablets with names and photos of their relatives who have been in the war and have been killed in battle.

Khakass Legitimate Theatre named after A.M. Topanov, Cultural and Folk Art Centre named after S.P. Kadyshev, Khakass National Puppet Theatre “Skazka” and Khakass Republican Philharmonic Hall named after V.G. Chaptykov also performe different festive programme. Moreover citizens and guests of Abakan have an opportunity to visit different stylized war places which are performed in Victory Park.

Celebration of the Victory Day in Abakan will come to an end with a festive firework.

According to the press service of Abakan’s town administration 1759 people are going to get a welfare assistance in 2016. There are 97 participants and disabled veterans of the Great Patriotic War, 11 military men, 16 former prisoners of war, having put in Nazi camps, and 19 citizens of Leningrad blockade among them.
